Head Coach Bill Brest
Bill is in his 28th year as an educator in the Hermitage School District, currently serving as a ninth & eleventh Grade Language Arts Teacher. He is also in his 27th year as a football coach. Bill began his coaching career in 1987 at Mercer High School working as the Defensive Coordinator for the Junior High football team for the year. The following year, he was hired as a Varsity Assistant Football Coach at Slippery Rock Area School District. From 1989 to 1997, Bill was a Varsity Assistant Football Coach at Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA, climbing the ladder, beginning as the offensive and defensive line coach to being named the Offensive Coordinator. While a football coach at Hickory High School, Bill had the opportunity to win a Mercer County Championship, two District Ten Championships, as well as a State Championship in 1989. Bill was also the Head Track and Field Coach at Hickory High School for five years, leading the team to their first county championship in 23 years, as well as producing many district champions, state qualifiers, and producing the first male track and field state champion in school history. In 1998, Bill was hired as an Assistant Football Coach at Thiel College in Greenville, PA. He spent 12 seasons at Thiel College, he coached the following: Wide Receivers, Running Backs, Assistant Offensive Coordinator, Pass Game Coordinator, and Special Teams Coordinator. In 2005, he had the opportunity to coach the first undefeated team in Thiel College, proceeding to the Division III National Playoffs. Also at Thiel, Bill coached an All-American Running Back to become the first 1,000 yard rusher in school history; as well as two All-American Receivers, one of whom holds all of Thiel’s receiving records, and was ranked one of the top four receivers in the entire nation.
Bill is currently in his fourth year as the Head Football Coach at Hickory High School. In 2010, he led the Hornets to the District Ten Championship game and an overall 9 – 3 record. In 2011, Bill led the Hornets to their first District Ten Championship in 21 years, as well as a berth in the PIAA State Quarterfinals.
